Mobility development of a child with deafblindness
Roubíková, Denisa ; Šumníková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Bertlová, Barbora (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to investigate the various possibilities for the development of mobility in a child with dual sensory disabilities. The work is conducted by the method of analysis of professional literature and other available sources that may relate to the researched topic. The introductory part of the thesis focuses on theoretical knowledge that helps in introducing the issue and defining the concept of deafblindness. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the etiology, possible causes and diseases that can cause the given disability. In the next chapters, among other things, the work will offer various forms of communication, methods and problems, as well as the possibilities of education and development of a child with deafblindness. Due to the lack of literature written in Czech, the research part of the work consists of an analysis of professional literature and other available sources, which examines Czech and foreign literature related to the development of mobility in a child with deafblindness. One of the main tasks of the chosen method - literary research, is to create a comprehensive and complete overview of current literature, in which we can find the researched topic and, based on a thorough analysis of the professional literature, subsequently offer a set of selected...
Pacient s kombinovaným znevýhodněním zraku a sluchu v ošetřovatelské praxi
VANÍČKOVÁ, Eliška
The bachelor thesis aims to raise awareness of the problems associated with visual and hearing impairment. The theoretical part is focused on defining the term deafblindness, classification of people with this handicap, its etiologies and development. The bachelor thesis also focuses on communication techniques used in communication with a deafblind person, nursing care for patients with this handicap, and an introduction to organizations that operate in the Czech Republic. The main aim of this bachelor thesis was to map how healthcare staff communicate with a patient suffering from a combined visual and hearing impairment and to find out how the combined visual and hearing impairment affects the client's communication with the external environment. It was to define and identify all the sub-variables that the qualitative investigation was conducted. The semi-structured interview method was selected for the purpose of this paper, in which 6 general nurses working in a health care facility participated. Purposive sampling was used to determine the research population. The inclusion in the research was conditional on practice with clients with combined visual and hearing impairment. The second research population was those clients with a presenting visual and hearing impairment who had experience of being in a healthcare facility. All interviews were recorded on a mobile phone and then transcribed in MS Word into electronic form. Data analysis involved open and axial coding, categorization of codes, and sorting into categories and subcategories based on predetermined objectives. The results show that the concept of communicating with a person with combined hearing and visual impairment is not a commonly discussed topic in our society. Nurses are rarely familiar with this issue. The undesirable factors that affect nurses are mainly the low awareness of this issue and the low incidence of such clients in the health care facility. The nurse probands report an increased level of distress in communicating with such a client. Client respondents are more likely to report pleasant experience with staff at the health facility.
System of care for people with deafblindness in the Czech Republic
Obselková, Gabriela ; Kotvová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Komorná, Marie (referee)
This thesis deals with deafblind people and their lives. The work investigates how the system of care for these people works in the Czech Republic and how the clients themselves are satisfied with this care. The introductory theoretical part provides basic information about dual sensory impairment, it explains the concept of "deafblindness", describes its classification, etiology and diagnosis. Attention is also given to several fundamental pillars of care of people with deafblindness, such as communication, education, social services, career success, socialization, aids, etc. Second part of this thesis consists of research that has been done using questionnaires with aim to determine how the care of the deafblind is implemented in the Czech Republic and how it is evaluated by particular clients. Survey results have provided personal reference of deafblind individuals about services, organizations and aids, about their frequency and availability. Keywords Dual sensory impairment, deafblindness, sheltered housing, communication systems, organization, people with visual and hearing impairments, aids, employment, social welfare, education.
Molecular genetic examinations in clinically defined group of patients with syndromic sight and hearing impairment in rare genetic disorders associated with deafblindness in the CR and SR
Čopíková, Jana ; Kremlíková Pourová, Radka (advisor) ; Astl, Jaromír (referee) ; Baxová, Alice (referee)
Deafblindness is a combined impairment of vision and hearing with an incidence of about 1: 8000 children and 1: 5500 adults. The most common genetic causes are the Stickler (STL) and Usher (USH) syndromes. The main goal of this work is to provide an up-to-date overview of STL and USH in the Czech and Slovak Republic (CR and SR), to determine the correlations between the genotype and phenotype in our population and the associated diagnostic criteria. Using sequencing and MLPA we examined 45 patients from 28 families for suspected STL. We found potentially causal variants of STL genes in 39 patients from 22 families. Fifteen different COL2A1 variants (8 being novel) were found in 28 patients from 18 families and 4 novel COL11A1 variants were found in 11 patients from 4 families. We identified the cause of the disease in 79 % of the families. The USH study involved 30 patients from 27 families. The most frequent cause was USH2A pathogenic variants, i.e. 19 variants in 14 families, 9 being novel. Less common were pathogenic variants in MYO7A (6 variants in 3 families, 5 being novel), USH1C and CDH23 (3 variants, 2 being novel, in 2 families both) genes. In 2 families, compound heterozygosity was found for variants in two different USH genes. The deafblindness etiology was clarified for 24 patients from...
Education and Development of the Child with Dual Sensory Disability from Mother's Point of View
Zvelebil, Maxmilián ; Květoňová, Lea (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with development and education in families with a child with dual sensory impairment, namely, from mother's point of view. The objective is to analyse stories of selected mothers of children with this particular disability, to explore the course of development and education involving deafblind children from different points of view (pedagogical, psychological etc.). The author of this thesis tries to find out about mothers' experiences and models of behaviour during pregnancy and afterwards. It focuses on acceptance of the disabled child within (and possibly outside) the family. In addition, the thesis explores reactions of mothers and others to a child with disability, it outlines the subsequent course of development and education in various periods of life. The particular emphasis is put on specific ways, by which these mothers developed their children during different activites (plays, conpensatory senses development, communication system development, independence of deafblind children etc.). It also describes developmental delays (emotional, social and cognitive functioning). Education options for deafblind are also mentioned. The stories are then compared to each other, as well as to selected literature from different countries. At the end of this thesis, practical...

Communication Technique for People with Severe Multiple Disabilities
MAŠTALÍŘOVÁ, Renata
The main aim of this bachelor thesis was to find communication techniques which could be used for communication on a selected person with deafblindness with fine and gross motor disorder and propose a way of communication with this person. The bachelor thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part we deal with the theoretical starting points for the given topic. First, we focus on the development of deafblindness and on the definition of this concept including the division of deafblindness. In the next chapter we deal with communication in general and also closer on people with disabilities. This is followed by the chapter of alternative and augmentative communication, where these terms are explained. There is also a list of examples of alternative and augmentative communication, which is subsequently narrowed to the techniques of communication of people with total deafblindness with associated affection of fine and gross motor skills. The individual techniques are explained and supplemented by visual display. In the last charter of the theoretical part we deal with the issue of associated disability to deafblindness, there is a list of syndromes and diseases causing deafblindness. To achieve the aim, we used a qualitative approach in the empirical part. In the form of a case study, we concentreted on a specific selected person with total deafblindness with associated affection of fine and gross motor skills with preserved verbal communication ability. The aim was to find out which of the selected techniques of alternative and augmentative communication can be used to communicate with a selected person with disabilities. The surprising result was that none of the available communication techniques were sufficient to communicate with the selected person. It was a reason to create a new individual communication technique created directly for the needs of a person with total deafblindness with associated disability of fine and gross motor skills and preserved verbal communication.
